- ZAYIN:
- On May 9th the Zayin class is invited to join Cantor Leibowitz's family at the Cantor's Shabbat Tish. Car pools will leave Beth Sholom immediately following the Friday night service finishes at approx 9pm. There is no set end-time for this event, the children will contact you when the evening is over. There will be snacks and beverages (students should have eaten dinner before arrival – there will be plenty of “nosheray” but not meant to supplement dinner) Please make sure your child is aware of any food allergies. The permission slip is attached.
- The directions to their house are as follows, hot from Cantor Joel's keyboard:
- Exit Temple left onto Park Ave. Turn right at light onto Pascack Road to end. Left onto Grand Ave. Continue on Grand Ave. (which at some point becomes Lake St.) through Upper Saddle River, all the way to Route 17 North. Take "Franklin Turnpike - Suffern" exit, keeping right toward Mahwah and Suffern. At the third traffic light, turn right onto Miller Road. Proceed to second right, which is Oweno Road, and second house from corner on right is #10.
- Call us at (201) 684-0014 or (631) 926-3443 if you get lost.
- To prepare for the evening Cantor Joel requested the Zayin class to do some preparation. They worked on this in class, and have follow up homework:
- Review what you want to say for your brief D'var Torah at the Cantor's Tisch. Topics you can discuss from Parashat Emor (Kaplan Chumash, page 611) can be:
- 1. The Kohenim (priests) and their holiness
- 2. The Holidays ( Shabbat, Rosh Hashana, Yom Kippur, Sukkot Pesach, Shavuot)
- 3. Counting the Omer
- You can work with a friend, but be ready to give your brief "Word of Torah" yourself
